Draper Tools Staff Beat The January Blues!

Draper Tools recently held a Well-Being Day for their employees to help beat those January Blues.  It was a full day of talks and activities ranging from Managing Stress advice to a Kayaking taster session in our reception!

Health MOTs

We were lucky enough to have representatives from Nuffield Health who carried out Health MOTs comprising blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, and BMI checks. They also delivered a talk on posture and stretching accompanied by leaflets demonstrating the moves for further practice at home.

Other talks on the day included a Nutrition Talk from the guys at Constant Fitness.

Solent Mind came along and shared some great tips on Stress Management.

Sports & Fitness

We had the opportunity to try sports like kayaking with Southampton Canoe Club and tennis with Ola Osuch.

Relaxing

And after all the exercise there were opportunities to de-stress with some head and shoulder massages and yoga. The style of yoga we tried was called Yin Yoga. The aim is to "let go" of everything; tension, tightness and resistance. It's based on the Taoist concept of yin and yan and has a deeply meditative quality.

Cycle To Work Scheme

Throughout the day the Cycle To Work pop up shop was available with information and advice and for cycling to work.

Bake Off Competition

We had a Healthy Bake Off Competition with the winner choosing a well-being charity of their choice to receive a £50.00 donation.   There were many very tasty entries but the judges chose a delicious Spiced Grape Cake with Orange Zest pictured below. It was made by Dave Patient from the Marketing Department who chose to split his prize between the Alzheimers' Society and Dementia UK.

Free fruit was available for all the staff throughout the day.

Alta Fitbit Fitness Wristband

There was also an Alta Fitbit up for grabs - any member of staff participating in Well-Being Day were in with a chance!  The lucky winner was Jason Baldwin who works in our Workshop Department - well done Jason!

The Well-Being Day was a great way to start 2019 and something quite different for the Company to do.  We're optimistic that this, our centenary year, will see us breaking lots of new boundaries.  We're looking forward to what the year has to offer!
