Record Set for the World’s Biggest Repair Café

World's Biggest Repair Cafe

On Saturday 11th November the record was beaten for the World’s biggest repair café. Previously the record stood at 150 items fixed at a repair café in France back in 2013. The Cambridge Repair Café movement surpassed this on Saturday, with a little help from a brand new Draper Tools tool kit, presented by Neil MacKay from Mackays of Cambridge.

The day was hosted by environmental charities, Cambridge Carbon Footprint and Transition Cambridge, who are behind the success of the repair café initiative in the area.

What are Repair Cafes?
Repair cafes are community events that match experienced repairers with people who need broken items fixing. The movement started in Holland 8 years ago, there are now a network of over 1,300 cafes globally. By 2021 there will be an estimated 5,000 repair cafes engaging 50,000 volunteers and 145,000 visitors every month. Cambridge is at the heart of the movement in the UK.

Congratulations!
We want to say a huge congratulations to all involved in the repair café movement and Saturday’s world record attempt. We hear that over 200 items were fixed and given a new lease of life – what a fantastic achievement!
